Fixion by Trentemøller

With ‘Fixion’, Anders has crafted a logical successor to 2013’s ‘Lost’ – a record that in many ways managed to truly capture the visceral live experience of Trentemøller as a full-band. In much the same manner that ‘Lost’ built on from the somber cinematic classic that was ‘Into The Great Wide Yonder’, ‘Fixion’ has embraced the Danish artist’s trademark melancholy and matured it into something uniquely atmospheric and darkly romantic.

Kōya by Braille Face

Emotionally turbulent and vividly atmospheric, Kōya is the debut album from Melbourne vocalist/producer Jordan White, aka Braille Face.
Described as “exploratory ambient pop,” Braille Face’s music combines moody electronics with songwriting of rare depth and vulnerability. On Kōya, Braille Face is as confident as he is speculative across twelve diverse tracks, showcasing sonic experimentation alongside lyrics exploring personal guilt, loss, sadness and complicity. Breaking across it all is White’s emotionally charged voice, which floats disarmingly from fragility to precision and back again.
White is a relentlessly prolific creator, who embarked on an ambitious creative project in 2015: to record and release one album per month for 12 months. The albums were uploaded to SoundCloud without any attempt at fanfare, but curiosity led radio broadcaster and fellow producer Tim Shiel to discover the project half way through its run. Connecting as musicians and as friends, the two worked together to hone the project’s most compelling cuts into a debut Braille Face album.
Braille Face is the first Australian signing to Spirit Level, a music label founded by long-time friends and collaborators Tim Shiel (electronic musician and Double J / triple j radio host) and Wally de Backer, also known as Gotye.

Well Worn by Kllo

Things happen fast these days. So fast in the case of Kllo that the Melbourne duo barely had a Facebook page or a proper song before a wave of interest began to build around their breakthrough EP Cusp. What a telling record title; in the year since its release, cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul have played sold-out shows and festival slots throughout Australia, racked up millions of plays on Spotify, and landed on several Artists to Watch lists. Now they’re about to chase steely pop singles like “False Calls” and “Make Me Wonder” with the next logical step: Well Worn, an EP that enhances Kllo’s high-gloss hooks even further. Guided by the ghosts of UK garage and like-minded strains of underground dance music, “Bolide” sets a skittish beat against a clipped chorus; “Walls to Build” melds Lam’s wobbly synth lines with Kaul’s vapor-trailed verses; and the one-two punch of “Sense” and “On My Name” build a couple piano-laced ballads from a pillowy sound bed of laid-back loops and lovelorn melodies. “Don’t Be The One” is deceivingly simple as well, bringing the record to a close alongside a rubbery, elusive rhythm and a growing sense of tension and release. Catchy, yes, but also compelling enough to leave us all longing for the pair’s inevitable LP.
